AI Visibility Benchmark

Every day, your clients ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity questions that used to start with a Google search. Which brands are named in the answers? Which ones get recommended? Datera's AI Visibility Benchmark gives you the answers, based on real data rather than wishful thinking.

What is an AI Visibility Benchmark?

An AI Visibility Benchmark shows you exactly what AI tools say when someone asks them the questions your clients ask every day.

We start with in-depth keyword research. Based on that, we ask the AI tools the same questions your target audience asks, in their language and in their market, and record the answers: which brands are mentioned, which are recommended, which is ranked first, and which sources the tools read to shape their responses.

Every question is asked repeatedly, across all the major tools. That way we measure how the AI actually behaves rather than judging by one lucky (or unlucky) answer.

We never ask the tools about your brand directly, because that would skew the results. We want to know what surfaces naturally in AI answers.

The result gives you three things a traditional search ranking report cannot:

  • How often your brand appears in AI answers

  • Where your brand stands within the answers themselves (early, late, positive, negative, and so on)

  • Which sources the AI is drawing on when it shapes its answers

What you get

  • Visibility vs. recommendation. How often your brand is mentioned, and how often the answer sends the reader directly to you. There is a big difference between being mentioned and being chosen, and the gap between the two is often the most important finding.

  • Share of voice. Of all the brands mentioned in your sector, how many are yours and how many belong to competitors.

  • Breakdown by AI tool. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity behave like four different markets. We show you where you are strong and where you are not.

  • The buying journey. Visibility is mapped across five stages of the purchase journey, from initial research to buying decision. A brand that disappears as the client gets closer to purchase has a very different problem from a brand that is invisible throughout.

  • The full sector picture. Which brands and websites the tools mention that you didn't even know you were competing with.

  • Source analysis. Which websites and domains the AI reads and builds its answers on. This list matters enormously. It shows which external information has the most influence on AI answers, and therefore which work beyond your own website matters most.

  • Verbatim answers. What the tools actually say, word for word, positive and negative, including a full picture of your brand when asked about it directly.

  • Prioritised actions. Not general advice, but targeted actions backed by data and ranked by expected impact.

Why this matters now

  • Search behaviour is changing fast. A growing share of pre-purchase research now starts with a conversation in an AI tool, not a traditional search engine.

  • In AI answers, the winner takes the stage. Google typically shows ten blue links. An AI answer usually names only two or three brands. If yours isn't one of them, you don't exist in that conversation.

  • Your brand can be #1 on Google and still invisible in AI answers. The tools build their responses on different kinds of sources: comparison sites, forums, news media, even your competitors' websites. Not just your own.

  • The story your competitor tells may already be fact in the eyes of the AI. When one brand's narrative is the only version the AI can cite, it repeats that narrative as truth.

This isn't the future. It is happening now, in your sector, today.

How we measure

Methodology is what separates real measurement from opinion:

  • Real questions, no steering. The questions are based on actual keyword research in the target audience's language. None of them mention your brand or your competitors, so every time your brand shows up, that visibility is genuinely earned.

  • Repeated across all tools. Because AI answers vary, every question is asked more than once in every tool. We measure behaviour, not a single answer.

  • Statistically sound. Every figure comes with a confidence interval. Small samples are explicitly labelled as "indicative" and never presented as confirmed findings.

  • Reviewed by experts. Answers are analysed by a data model calibrated against a hand-labelled dataset, then reviewed and verified by Datera's specialists.

Measurements run on the Versoria platform; every benchmark is designed and executed by Datera.

Measure, fix, measure again

The AI Visibility Benchmark tells you where you stand and why. Datera's AI Readiness Audit tells you what you need to fix on your own website. Together they form a process that delivers results:

  • Measure: what the tools say and what they read.

  • Act: fix the content, structure and sources the benchmark shows are falling short.

  • Re-measure: run the benchmark again (and again) and track the trend over time.

Because AI answers change quickly with new language models and new sources, most clients choose to run the benchmark quarterly or alongside major campaigns.

Who is this for?

Any brand whose clients do their research before they buy. We have already run benchmarks for clients in energy, banking, retail, travel and telecoms, in Icelandic and international markets alike.

If people are asking AI about the products and services you provide, you need to know what the AI is telling them.

Summary

The AI is already describing your brand. Accurately or not, positively or not, with or without your input. The real question is whether you know what it's saying.

The first step is an AI Visibility Benchmark, so you know exactly where you stand.

How is this different from an AI Readiness Audit?

toggle
An AI Readiness Audit looks at your website — presentation, structure, schema markup, and how machines read and understand it. The AI Visibility Benchmark looks at the AI tools' answers: what the AI actually says about companies and brands in your sector, and which sources it relies on. One looks inward, the other outward. They work best together.
